Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is both an art and a science of personal excellence. We could define it in a very concise way as a communication model that explains human behavior. It shows us how we do something, what internal strategies we follow to be sad, happy, angry, euphoric, and more.
NLP, in principle, is a model, not a theory. Its field is to model what works, not theorise about it or connect it with the systems of psychology or philosophy. Part of the premise is that, if we know the strategies unconsciously used by people who are brilliant in what they do, we can learn to consciously use those strategies either to be more successful in our work, or to manage more effectively our behavior or our emotional states. Neuro-linguistic Programming provides tools and skills to develop states of excellence in communication and change.
The name of Neuro-linguistic Programming consists of three terms:
· Neuro: that comes from the Greek “Neuron”. It is said that all behavior is the result of a neurological process. Any action or behavior is a function of the neurological activity set in motion from the information that reaches us through the senses. The interpretation that we give to this information is what shapes our perception of the world around us.
· Linguistics: derived from the Latin “Lingua”. It indicates that the neurological process is represented, ordered, sequenced and transmitted through communication based on the word or language. That language is a representation of our mental organisation and our operational strategies.
· Programming: a term that refers to the organisation processes of the components of a system. It refers to the established mental programs that govern our thinking and behavior. In which, we can program ourselves in a similar way to how a computer is programmed to perform certain functions that interest us.
In short, NLP is a tool that facilitates the achievement of human objectives
When we talk about Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) everyone evokes how a computer works. Based on the data we enter and the program with which we work, the machine processes, stores and updates the information every time we require.
In our case, the data introduced would be the sensory information that we receive continuously from outside: everything we see, hear, taste, feel, etc. It is processed and stored according to the programming that we have in our brain, and based on that programming, we give it a meaning.
Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) through its techniques and tools allows us to know our MAP and that of others so that we can modify it and even expand it, in order to achieve the goals, we set for ourselves. This is to establish the necessary changes that increase the chances of success in our objectives.
Keep in mind that to work with NLP, you must be prepared for taking action. You should have an attitude of active curiosity, a large dose of perseverance, and a scientific mentality that leads us to investigate what is behind each behavior and a deep desire for change and to achieve the objectives we set.
